Have you ever heard about lava lamps? Do you like it? Yes of course, I like lava lamps. I love the “lava”, the slow chaotic rise and fall of randomly-shaped blobs of wax. Actually, lava lamps are not common lamps. I mean it’s not created for illumination, like any other lamps, but lava lamps are made for decoration lamps. It’s a tapered glass bottle containing water, wax and a certain materials (I don’t know). And than, what else? Here is according Wikipedia. A metallic wire coil in the base of the bottle furthers heat convection and suspends the falling blobs of wax. Can you imagine it? I’m sure you can. The wax is slightly denser than water at 25 C, and less dense under warmer conditions. You know why? Yes, of course. This occurs because wax expands more than water when both are heated. Since common wax is less dense than water and would float at any room temperature, a heavy, nonflammable solvent is added to adjust the wax slightly higher than that of water. That’s how lava lamps work. Oh God, I don’t know what it was. Just don’t think about it….
Let’s talk about the market. Lava lamps are available on the market with various styles and colors of wax and liquid. And I love the violet one. I don’t know why, I just like it. What about the price? We can get one of lava lamps just for $30. Cheap enough right? Wanna buy one for me? He he… just kidding. But remember, you have to be careful to handle this lamp. Lava lamps could explode when heating on a stove. So don’t try it. Ok, I think that’s enough for this time. I hope this short info could be useful. Oh yea… Do you know that this lamp was invented by Asian people? Yes, lava lamp was invented by Edward Craven Walker, a Singapore-born American in 1960s.
